Hearts of iron iv france4/17/2023 ![]() 7 are on the north flank (including 1 Mountain divison), 5 are in the south and one is garrisonning the Capital at the start.Īlso if you check the terrain, Ethiopia is largely mountain and hills which offer a big defensive bonus (especially with the mointain division) as well as having some river crossings to contend with. Having just started up as Ethiopia I can confirm they have 13 divisions. IRL it took Italy 4 months from the 1936 start date to finish Ethiopia so it sounds pretty normal to not instantly crush them and the time Ogami gives above is actually perfect.Īnother thing is that you don't get perfect intelligence on the enemiy units you face with the information you do get being better as you get later techs. HoI4 is a strategy game, sometimes the strategy is a bit more complicated than "advance directly towards the enemy". Why don't you try doing what Germany did in real life and hold the border with some forces but concentrate the thrust of your attack through Belgium and into France's lightly defended North? This means even if you do have superior forces, France can still do a very good job of holding you off. Your forces are attacking into defensive terrain that has been massively fortified so the defenders have a huge bonus. However the more significant problem is that the border with Germany and France is HEAVILY fortified, just like it was in real life. I might be wrong, but I think you'll find only a fraction of your forces are fighting at once. ![]() Try clicking the battle icon and seeing how many of your 24 forces are actually fighting in each battle. From what I recall there is a limit to how many forces can effectively engage from a single province. Firstly, I don't think you can use all your forces. If you're saying that you have 24 divisions in each of the 5 provinces that border France, the problem is your strategy and the game is working as intended.
